From the initial design concept to the on-going maintenance following an installation, Forward are there to ensure that the running of the project is as efficient as possible. Using one company to provide all the services required enables accurate time projections and minimal contractor issues.

Operation and maintenance

Blue chip clients, such as e-on and Thames Water are amongst those who have recently placed their trust in Forward to perform long term operation and maintenance services on their sustainable energy systems, incorporating Biomass Boilers and Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plants at their heart. The Forward maintenance customer base covers a broad geographical area. It includes the South East, South West, Midlands and North West and it is constantly expanding.

Combined heat and power (CHP)

CHP, or co-generation as it’s sometimes called, is the process of capturing and then utilising the heat produced by generating electricity. Conventional electricity generation by power stations is only around 38% efficient, which means a huge potential source of energy is simply released into the atmosphere as a by-product. CHP can harness this power. CHP can be incorporated into a tri-generation scheme to provide heating, power and cooling from the same source.

Heat exchangers

Forward Industrial Utilities Products Ltd provide a number of services related to heat exchangers. Maintenance – we can maintain or refurbish your existing heat exchangers. In some situations we can install a temporary heat exchanger while we take your exchanger off site. Replacement – We can replace most heat exchangers, sourcing the solution that is best for your situation. Design & Manufacture – We can provide a design and manufacture service, building a heat exchanger that fulfills your more specific requirements.

Biomass boilers

Biomass is a type of fuel that produces energy by burning plant and animal matter such as trees, animal by-products, and general waste products. Wood remains the most commonly used biomass fuel, and is used to power systems that typically convert the energy into heat for water and space heating. In terms of both installation and running costs, biomass has the lowest capital cost of all renewable energy technologies. Wood fuel is also a carbon neutral resource and can make a significant contribution to meeting the UK’s commitment to reducing CO2 emissions.

Natural gas boilers

Forward are able to install and maintain natural gas boilers with the added benefit that CHP facilities can be included in the overall build. For instance, natural gas may be used to generate electricity needed in a particular industrial setting. The excess heat and steam produced from this process can be harnessed to fulfil other industrial applications, including space heating, water heating, and powering industrial boilers. Since industry is such a heavy user of energy, particularly electricity, providing increased efficiency can save a great deal of money.

Mechanical and electrical installations

Forward’s experienced, highly skilled team are able to fulfil most onsite engineering requirements including mechanical and electrical installations and repairs. Being able to undertake these needs in house enables Forward to ensure a seamless start to finish service. Not having to rely on outside contractors and their independent time plans means that your project is scheduled to be completed on time.

Waste to energy

Waste-to-energy refers to the range of processes that cause waste to combust at high temperature. Heat energy is recovered from these processes to produce steam, which in turn is used to drive a turbine. This can be used directly for industrial processes and community heating, or to produce electricity. Waste-to-energy is an alternative to burning fossil fuels and provides an important contribution towards reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

District heat networks

District heating is the use of a central boiler to provide heat to a number of buildings via a pre-insulated pipe network. Forward excel in the design, installation and maintenance of these networks. Once your network has been designed to your requirements, Forward will then coordinate the civil engineering and equipment installation to ensure your network is fully operational on time.
